As a member of the acetamido buffer family, ACES buffer can react with metals such as copper and magnesium, and its bound copper ions can transfer lone pair electrons in the chloroplast. But it does not complex with other metals such as calcium, manganese, cobalt, nickel, zinc, etc.
ACES is more suitable than other buffers when identifying nucleic acids with larger molecular weights.
