    Human heart-type fatty acid-binding protein Ab (HFABP)

    Heart-shaped fatty acid binding protein (HFABP, also known as FABP3) is composed of 132 amino acids and has a molecular weight of 15 kDa. It is one of the most abundant proteins in the heart. hFABP combines two fatty acid molecules and participates in the transportation of fatty acyl-CoA, and is active in the oxidation process, thereby generating energy in the mitochondria.

    Heart-shaped fatty acid binding protein (HFABP) is a new type of small cytoplasmic protein rich in the heart. It is highly cardiac-specific (that is, it is mainly expressed in heart tissue), but it is also expressed in low concentrations in tissues other than the heart. After the occurrence of myocardial ischemic injury, HFABP can be found in the blood as early as 1-3 hours after the onset of chest pain, peak in 6-8 hours and plasma levels return to normal within 24-30 hours. Therefore, HFABP is regarded as a useful biomarker for early diagnosis of myocardial injury.

    Elevated free plasma myoglobin levels are widely accepted early signs of myocardial injury and have been shown to increase plasma myoglobin levels higher than CK-MB and cTnT levels. Excluding acute myocardial infarction within 3-6 hours after symptom onset (AMI) is superior. But HFABP is more cardiac-specific, and because of its biological characteristics, it is considered to be a more accurate diagnostic test.

    In addition, human HFABP can be used as a good biomarker with high sensitivity and detection rate for the detection of myocardial infarction.
