Human CLDN18.2 (Claudin 18.2)
Claudin is an integral membrane protein (Integral Membrane Protein) in the tight junction of epithelium and endothelium The claudin 18 (CLDN18) molecule is an integrated transmembrane protein (quaternary transmembrane protein) with four transmembrane hydrophobic regions and two extracellular loops. CLDN18 exists in two different splice variants, CLDN18.1, and CLDN18.2. Splice variants CLDN18.1 and CLDN18.2 differ in the N-terminal portion containing the first transmembrane (TM) region and Loop 1, while the C-terminal protein has the same primary sequence.
CLDN18.1 is selectively expressed in normal lung cells, while CLDN18.2 is only expressed on gastric cells. However, the expression of CLDN18.2 in normal stomach is limited to differentiated gastric epithelial short-lived cells. It has been confirmed that CLDN18.2 is expressed in various tumor tissues.
