Common uses of MES buffer

1. Suitable for cation exchange chromatography and hydroxyapatite chromatography;

2. The peptide skeleton interaction between MES and bovine serum albumin leads to the net stability of protein 11;

3. MES does not form free radical substances, so it is suitable for redox research;

4. Gel filtration chromatography and hydrophobic interaction chromatography;

5. Used for cellulose phosphate column chromatography;

6. Suitable as a non coordinated buffer in metal ion solutions;

7. Used for preparing culture media because it is not metabolized by bacteria and eukaryotic cells;

8. Used for low concentration plant cell culture medium.

Precautions for using MES

1. It can be oxidized by H2O2, but due to the slow occurrence of oxidation, it is not expected to have a significant impact on the biological/biochemical system. However, attention should be paid to this when using it;

2. It can alter lipid interactions;

3. When it is in protonated form, it inhibits the activity of connexin channels in rat liver cells;

4. It interferes with the phenolic oxidation of peroxidase;

5. Toxic to most plants at high concentrations;

6. The binding between MES and most metal ions is weak;

7. It is a good substitute for maleic acid and a buffer with high UV absorption capacity.
