TES buffer is a kind of Good's buffer series, which is a zwitterionic buffer for biochemistry and molecular biology, and it is also part of the Tris buffer family, because it is synthesized by Tris + EDTA + SDS, so it is called TES buffer. The pKa of TES at 25°C is just below physiological pH (7.4), so it has an effective pH range of 6.8 – 8.2 and its dissociation constant changes only slightly with temperature.
It is used in various protein assays, micellar electrokinetic chromatography and testing egg yolk buffer media. Like most neutral pH, amine-based buffers, TES forms a complex with DNA. It has a greater effect on restriction enzyme kinetics than HEPES, but less than Tris. It also forms complexes with Cu(II) ions.
