Good's buffers are amphoteric ion buffers. These buffers are usually amino sulfonic acid organic compounds. When compounded into solutions, the pH value is relatively stable, and they do not react with a variety of enzymes and chemical reagents. They are mainly used in biology and medicine.

 

Good's buffers have the following commonalities

(1) High solubility in water;

(2) The acid-base dissociation constant (pKa value) is stable, generally at 6-8. The ability to release protons is stable, and is less affected by ion concentration, solution composition and temperature.

(3) It has low cell membrane permeability and is not easy to penetrate biofilm.

(4) It can chelate with low molar mass metal ions, but not precipitate with metal ions.

(5) High chemical stability;

(6) Light absorption is small in the wavelength range of ultraviolet and visible light.

(7) The possibility of salting out with organic polymers in organism is small.

(8) High purity salt is easy to obtain.
